Planning Out Characters
After getting the base narrative, I needed to shape the characters of the Red Heels
Deuteragonist: Cynthia
Cynthia is the first victim. In horror movies, it is common for the main protagonist to be female, as seen in Scream (1996). I decided to follow this convention. Cynthia has the most screen time in the film opening, so it was necessary to plan her out well. She needed to be expressive and dramatic. I decided to make her an office worker in her late 20's, ensuring her character fit this description. I wanted her to have a unique name that matched her character; hence I chose Cynthia.
Antagonist: Lilith
Conventionally, Lilith is a supernatural entity attached to the red shoes, appearing as a shadow-like figure in the film opening. The gender isn't clear, so I decided to give her a feminine name to challenge horror conventions, as the antagonist or monster is predominantly male. This trend is rooted in both historical and cultural factors. I named her after the demon who preyed on women and infants according to Jewish folklore. The name is fitting to her character, as red heels are an accessory commonly worn by women, and she kills whoever wears them.
Protagonist: Pandora
Pandora is the girl who continues the story of the red heels. I decided to portray her as a 19 year old college student wearing casual clothing, following horror conventions. Her name is used to foreshadow what's to come. According to Greek mythology, Pandora opened a box (referred to as Pandora's box) that released all the evils of humanity. Similarly, in The Red Heels, she opens the shoe box, releasing Lilith.
